Day 211: Skiing

I haven't put skis on all year, but my mom had a nice cross-country trail she'd marked out with our crazy March/April snow dump and she let me borrow her skis. It was melting rather quickly. She'd just made the trail a few hours earlier, and already parts of it were down to the grass. It was beautiful and bright when I tried it, but it was probably just in time.

Day 196: 15 months and more new snow

Zaria is 15 months and one day old today, and had her well-child visit at the doctor's office. She is a well child, and pretty close to the 50th percentile in everything, now even a little above for height, so she's finally lengthening out a little now that she's walking. We were getting ready to go in the photo above. She was needing some comfort from her teddy bear and pacifier after getting a couple of shots. Yup, I did end up letting her get the MMR shot, but I also opted to wait until now rather than when she was 12 months so that her system would be a little more developed and able to handle it. I feel confident in the decision, and it's probably good especially now for her to have the rubella vaccination since she'll be around a preggo mom.

It also snowed today, so I had to take a picture by beautiful Medicine Lake while I was in the neighborhood. Isn't this week supposed to have the first day of spring? Are we going to have snow for Easter?

Day 154: Snow day

I decided to see if Zaria would still fit in her bouncer play gym, and she does, though she is getting a little big for it. It's supposed to snow about 2-6 inches today, so I opened the curtains up wide for us to look out at it while she played. It looked so cold out, I put tights on Zaria after taking this picture.

Day 152: Art Shanties on Medicine Lake

For the second year, Jamin, Zaria and I have taken the trek to Medicine Lake to see the Art Shanties. It's really fun and I recommend it. Every year in late January to mid-February a bunch of artists put together ice-fishing houses, or shanties that are artwork. Some of them are just normal fish houses that contain art, and others are in fun shapes, like the robot pictured behind Jamin (below). Above was a shanty filled with mobiles. I made the one that has the toy sheep on it while we listened to a car accident story by one of the artists. Zaria had fun crawling around in there and watching their black Labrador. I was surprised at how well our little umbrella stroller did on the lake. There had been just enough melting and re-freezing to make it pretty smooth.

Day 133: A walk to the park

I've done very little walking outside since the snow came down. Zaria's stroller just isn't made to go over all the bumpy snow that covers all the sidewalks, and it's not real safe to stroll in the streets. So Jamin and I took a walk to the park while Mom watched Zaria. I was glad to see they've replaced the slide that some vandals had burned last summer. There was still police tape attached to the playground, but I'm not exactly sure why.

Day 131: Sledding and Brian's girlfriend

Jamin and I went sledding today! We bundled up a little too warm because you really get hot climbing those hills. We also had my stepbrother, Brian, and his girlfriend Mindy over for dinner this evening, and Mindy brought her little boy Aidan, who is pictured below. It was fun to finally meet Mindy and her son, and of course Zaria enjoyed having a playmate for the evening.

Day 123: Sledding

We went to visit Jen and Maria again today and decided to try taking the girls sledding. Zaria's still not too crazy about being immobilized in her snowsuit, but she went down the hill with me a couple of times. She liked being pulled around with Maria a little better, I think. I imagine it would be a little scary to go careening down a hill when you're bundled up like a mummy and can't move. I had fun, and the girls were ready for a nap when we were done.

Day 95: Shoveling snow

I bought this tiny car shovel at Target last Saturday when it snowed a bunch-- it's actually nice for having in the car, and it helped me shovel Cassie's walkway when I went to visit her on Monday (after that I used a real shovel for the driveway and got completely worn out before I even finished). I didn't use it as much today since I forgot my gloves when I was out and about, and it's only snowed a couple of extra inches. Jamin used it to shovel in front of our garage when I was putting up Christmas lights around our garage door. I'll have to get a picture of that another day.

Day 92: Snow play

I tried out this snowsuit on Zaria for the first time today-- she was a bit unhappy about not being able to get her hands out, so we'll have to work on that. I was pretty excited to get out into the snow, and I did show her how to make a snow angel for the 5 minutes we were outside. She'll probably have more fun when she can get around and explore a little better.

Day 91: Cruising around town

On our way to church this morning, we saw several early morning (like 9:30 am) Vikings fans already milling about downtown. I hope these folks got a great breakfast deal, because it was cold this morning. We cruised around town for a few hours looking at houses again, including a condo we may actually bid on. Zaria was having a blast cruising around our legs while we played Rack-O with my mom this evening. I apparently still had the camera in night mode, but I thought I'd include it today.

Day 90: Christmas picture outtake

"Zaria! Look at the camera!"
I dressed up a bit for the Women's Tea at FBC this morning, so I convinced Jamin and Zaria to dress up for a picture with me before I left. This was one of our outtakes, as the title would suggest. And by the way, we did have lots of snow today as predicted.

Day 88: Rental car and cherry pie

I did a little editing on this one so there wouldn't be any phone numbers, but this was my rental car yesterday and today. It took a little extra time for them to finish the maintenance stuff on our Hyundai. We're almost at the 60k mile mark, which is when our warranty expires, so we thought it best to get that ol' timing belt and accessory belt replaced. When Jamin and I moved out to Oregon, it was the timing belt that broke on both of our cars on our way out there, so I hope to never have that happen again.

Below is the cherry pie I made to bring to small group. It turned out really well for my first try. Of course, I used canned filling and refrigerated crust, but it still looked really pretty. I heard it's supposed to snow a lot this weekend, so I decided to have fun with the snowflake cookie cutter.
